Rat fish
Rat fish is a very typical benthic and gregarious fish. It is omnivorous and generally docile. It is an excellent polyculture fish in the aquarium. kind.
1. Shape characteristics
The rat fish is similar to the heteromorphic fish. The body has bony plates, and the first rays of the pectoral and dorsal fins are hard spines, which can be used to protect themselves, but there are no common differences. What is different from the unusual fish is that the bony plates on both sides of the rat fish's body are made of hard scales evenly distributed on the left and right, which are arranged in a delicate and systematic manner. In addition, rat fish can also use the rich blood vessels in the back end of the intestine to breathe the air on the water surface to survive difficult situations such as drought or insufficient dissolved oxygen in the water. This is why we can often see rat fish suddenly suddenly Swimming to the surface and swallowing the atmosphere.
2. Growth method
1. Tank arrangement
The tank filtration system for growth adopts side filtration. The fish tank size is 110cm×25cm×25cm. The filter tank is 10cm long. The filter materials in the filter tank are as follows: physical filter cotton - glass ring - volcanic rock - ammonia absorbing stone - biological filter cotton. Some grass mud balls are also placed in the tank. Use a 15W submersible pump to drive the water flow in the entire tank.
40% of the space in the tank is aquatic plants, mainly some shade grasses that are easy to be managed roughly, such as moss, iron crown, big banyan and small banyan. The latter two are tied to glass bars and driftwood. Use some heavy wood that has a hole-like feel, so that the rat fish can rest underneath. This environment is to relieve the rat fish's sense of tension. The feeling of space will make it easily frightened. And this situation is very helpful for their coordination.
What makes sense is that ratfish will lay their eggs on the wall of the tank in a spacious tank. In a tank with dense aquatic plants, even a few eggs will be laid on the wall, but they will not be laid on the aquatic plants. The eggs are laid on the backs of leaves using very low aquatic plants.
The side filtration is connected with PVC pipes, and the water flow at the outlet is flat. This is very important. For example, pearl rats and pepper rats are species found in rivers. The environment of this place of origin is mostly turbulent areas of river mouths, and during spawning, some places where the water flow is relatively calm will be selected, so the water flow will not be too fast, but it must be allowed to feel the vibration of the water. The space rodents (genus Scleromystax) found in mountainous areas and the genus B ratfish found in deep water areas of pools also have different water flow requirements.
2. Fish food
When raising rat fish, the most unnecessary thing to worry about is that the fish will notInternal diseases or other diseases caused by eating unclean food. The feed is mainly a combination of frozen year-old shrimp, frozen blood worms, fresh water earthworms and JBL rat fish patches. Some people feel that ratfish are still more comfortable with live bait.
The male and female distinction of rat fish will become more obvious after sexual maturity. We can see that the body of the female fish is slightly full.
It is more obvious from above. The pelvic fins of female fish are very short and have a rounded and blunt tip; while the pelvic fins of male fish are very long and have a sharp tip. When the female fish lays eggs, the two pelvic fins will be merged together, so that the eggs removed from the genital opening will be wrapped by the two pelvic fins. They will not unfold until they find a suitable position and lay the eggs in the chosen place.
The environment has been created, the problem of food and warmth has been solved, and we are waiting to lay eggs.
3. Growth and spawning
A common method is to change the water. Of course, there are other measures, such as constantly changing the height of the water level in the fish tank, which will also play a certain role in the production. The pepper rat can easily lay eggs by changing the water, but the guinea rat does not.
4. Incubation
The size of the hatching tank is 40cm × 30cm × 30cm. A 3.5W oxygen pump drives a single-head water fairy, and the water temperature is constant at 23 degrees. Put some iron crown and moss in the tank. During incubation, add a little methylene blue to the water for sterilization. In about 2 to 3 days, the small fish will continue to hatch. After 12 hours, feed freshly hatched live adult shrimp or dried shelled adult shrimp eggs. Small fish grow very fast and can reach 1.5 cm in one month. Small fish in the same nest will also have great individual differences due to their different feeding abilities, but they will not harm each other because of this. One-month-old fish can be fed frozen mature shrimps. If you feed water earthworms at this stage, the small fish will grow very quickly because water earthworms contain high protein. At the same time, you should also pay attention to hygiene, because most of the growth conditions of water worms are not very clean.
3. Feeding methods
If you want to increase the growth rate, you may also want to try vitamin B12. The usage is very simple: wash off the sugar coating of the tablets with water and smash them into powder, pour them into the water and stir evenly. In such an environment, it is enough to raise water earthworms for feeding. Waterworms absorb vitamins and act as media to benefit small fish. Two-month-old fish can be managed roughly. It is important not to let the water quality in the tank change too quickly.
Rat fish rarely get sick in the breeding center. The most common thing is internal parasites caused by eating unclean food. Rat fish have strong resistance, but it does not mean they will not feel it. The best solution is still to feed clean food regularly. However, there is no need to be afraid if you get sick. Generally, I have used Bai Bi and Dr. Yu’s endoparasitic medicine, and the results have been quite satisfactory.
The rat fish is a member of the guinea pig family. It cannot grow healthy without the support of its owner.Cherish carefully.
