The Portuguese Water Dog is a very cute poodle with generally black or hazel eyes and a medium-sized dog.
The Portuguese Water Dog has a large head, widely spaced eyes, slightly slanted, round eyes, and eyes that may be black or different shades of brown. The ear shell is thin and heart-shaped, with the tip of the ear extending downward except for a small hole on the back. The muzzle is crisp and firm, the nose is broad, the lips are thick, and the teeth have a scissor-like or pincer-like bite.
The neck is straight, short, round and high-lifted, with no sagging and relaxed skin. The backline is flat and firm, the chest is broad and deep, and the belly is rounded in a beautiful arc.
The back is broad and the waist is short. The tail is curled into a ring when alert, but the front part does not reach the front of the waist.
The body is evenly covered with hair. There is no down layer, mane or ruff, and there are two types of coat: curved and rippling. The curved type has tight cylindrical hair curls, without luster, and the ear hair occasionally has ripples. The ripple type droops in the shape of a wave, without bending, and has a slight luster. There is no advantage or disadvantage between the two coat types. There are two methods for trimming:
1. Lion-hair style: Once the coat grows long, cut the coat on the middle, hindquarters and muzzle. Cut it off, leaving all the hair on the tail.
2. Retriever style: In order to show the smooth and smooth continuous lines of the natural appearance, all the coat is cut or pushed away according to the body surface, leaving a short coat no more than 2.5 cm long. Both methods of pruning are treated equally.
The coat color is black, white and different shades of brown, and there are also combinations of black or brown and white. As long as the nose, mouth and eyelids are black, the white coat is not an albino type. The coat is black, the skin is white or the skin is obviously blue.
This kind of dog is a very cute dog, and it is also very delicate.
